More on Quitting Behavior

I found a good article on the 3 things stopping us from reaching goals.  You can find the whole article here.  Below I summarize it:

  1. Considerations.  Right when we come up with a goal, we start considering all the things that could go wrong.  (I’m guessing we do this because change is scary, and we generally want to stay in our comfort zone).  I had considerations when I started this blog.  What if no one reads it? (Thanks to my loyal 4-6 readers, I don’t have to deal with that ;))  What if a lot of people read it and think it sucks?  What if I can’t meet the goals, and it’s out in the open?  Etc.
  2.  Fears.  Everyone knows this one.  But I like the acronym the article gives for F.E.A.R: False Evidence Appearing Real.  In the book You are a Badass which I’m also reading, the author describes how our fears are almost always NOT what actually happens.  We fear so many things, and most of them aren’t even real!  This was helpful for me to read.
  3.   Roadblocks.  They are bound to happen.  But, we can take a lesson from young children.  This article describes how a five-year old will do ANYTHING they can to get what they want.  And, in the same way, we can do that with our goals.  We have to be diligent, eager, and flexible.  (But most of all, we have to NOT QUIT.)
